A Message from the Committee

Dear Club Member, Sponsor and Pentyrch Resident,

As we enter our third month of lock-down I thought you would appreciate an update of how the club is managing. From the outset, it was agreed the club would be overseen by an Executive Committee (EC) of five, who hold regular virtual meetings. With no bar income being received we initially reviewed our financial situation and trimmed our outgoings to a minimum. As of now we have a projected financial plan to the end of December 2020 and I can confirm the club is financially stable.

We have furloughed all three of our salaried staff and adhere to Welsh Government and WRU instructions/guidelines. We have continued to maintain our rugby pitches but both require further maintenance once we have some substantial rainfall. In turn, each member of the EC inspect the interior and exterior of the club on a daily basis.

You may already be aware of initiatives undertaken by club members and players in raising money for various NHS charities and donations of snacks and beverages made by the club to Royal Glamorgan hospital and the local Ty Hafod care home. The club also raised £500.00 from a raffle of old stock, £400.00 of which was donated to Cardiff and Vale Hospital Trust and £100.00 was given to a fund, organised by Canton RFC, to support the family of a 12 year old player following the death of his mother, a NHS nurse, who passed away in April from coronavirus. Up to now over £6k has been raised and donated. More detailed information is available on the club website – www.pentyrchrugby.co.uk

The EC has decided to press ahead with this year's AGM, which will be held virtually sometime in July. Further information will be provided within the next few weeks via e-mail, social media and the club website. Shortly, we shall also be considering the requirements of re-opening the club and of training/playing once the restrictions are officially lifted. We also hope a small number of  volunteers will begin work on cleaning the outside of the club structure, patio area, etc, over the coming weeks. Any work undertaken will be supervised by EC members to ensure social distance and other COVID 19 requirements are met.

Finally, a big 'thank you' to our sponsors for the support offered to the club last season. We hope your own businesses are fairing well and that we will be re-united in the not too distant future.

Best wishes and stay well.

Gareth Williams
Club Secretary.
