Clubhouse/Welsh Goverment(Opening hours and use)

The Executive Group met yesterday to discuss the implications arising from the new restrictions to be placed on hospitality businesses from 6pm this Friday.

As you’ll be aware, these include a requirement to close by 6pm and a prohibition on the sale of alcohol.

The Welsh and UK Governments are offering a range of financial support measures that, with careful management, should allow us to weather this latest setback.

It is, of course, a big blow for the social life of the Club.

In order to control costs and allow the maximum furloughing of staff, the Executive Group has decided that the only course of action is to close the bar service from 6pm on Friday 4 December 2020.

A reopening date is as yet unclear, with these new restrictions to be reviewed on 17 December and on a three-weekly basis thereafter.

Whilst an earlier reopening would be welcome, we are currently planning on the basis that the Club will not open again until sometime in January at the earliest.

More positively, and in contrast to previous closure periods, rugby activity (including touch rugby matches) from Seniors to U7s can continue, the gym remains open, and room hire for certain purposes is permissible.

It is only the bar service that is closed. Many other aspects of Club life can thankfully continue.

This week

The Club will extend its opening hours on Thursday to 10pm and open from 2pm until 6pm on Friday
