Match Report Pentyrch v Clwb Rygbi Cymru Caerdydd on 6th April 2019

On a clear sunny afternoon with the pitch looking in good condition Clwb kicked off, but unfortunately kicked the ball straight out. The Tyrchs won the resulting scrum and ran the ball deep into the Clwb half and were awarded a penalty. Tom James kicked for touch; the Tyrchs won the lineout and drove forward. The Tyrchs forwards looked strong and moved the ball forward through three phases before knocking the ball on when a score seemed likely. Clwb won the scrum and cleared the ball up to half way. The Tyrchs won the lineout and again ran the ball strongly but conceded a penalty in mid field. The penalty was taken quickly and despite losing the ball Clwb managed to regain it with Alun Evans scoring a try in the right hand corner, Ollie Jenkins kicked a very good conversion from near the touch line making the score Tyrchs 0 Clwb 7.

The Tyrchs restarted the game and won back the ball. Moving the ball to the left and putting in a good grubber kick Clwb conceded a lineout on their 22. The Tyrchs won the lineout and yet again moved the ball strongly. The pressure finally told with the Tyrchs being awarded a penalty. The Tyrchs chose to take a scrum and drove the Clwb pack into their 5 metre area. Rhe ball was recycled and Captain Sam Scanlon scored a good try in the right hand corner. The conversion was unsuccessful making the score Tyrchs 5 Clwb 7.

Clwb restarted the game and following a poor kick to touch won the resulting lineout and Alun Evans scored another try near the posts. Ollie Jenkins converted making the score Tyrchs 5 Clwb 14.

The Tyrchs restarted the game and following some toing and froing found them in the Clwb 22. Unfortunately the Tyrchs knocked the ball on but following the scrum and two lineouts regained the ball and applied good pressure on the Clwb defence. As a result the Tyrchs were awarded a penalty which was kicked to touch within 5 metres of the Clwb line. The Tyrchs won the lineout which resulted in more pressure being applied. The ball ran loose with the Tyrchs being awarded another lineout. The referee indicated that there were 90 seconds left until half time so the Tyrchs organised themselves. The ball was scrappily won with two players becoming involved in a dispute about possession of the ball. The referee had enough and blew early for half time much to the disgust of the Tyrch supporters.

Half Time Score Tyrchs 5 Clwb 14.

The Tyrchs kicked off the second half with Clwb strongly challenging for the ball. Unfortunately Clwb knocked the ball on in the process. The Tyrchs won the scrum, ran the ball into midfield and won a penalty. The Tyrchs were looking more positive but following the lineout were themselves penalised. Clwb chose to have a kick at the posts which was converted by Ollie Jenkins. Score Tyrchs 5 Clwb 17.

The Tyrchs restarted the game and the ball was run back into their 22. Pressure by the Clwb forwards won their side a penalty which was narrowly missed because of a swirling wind. The Tyrchs restarted at their 22 and Clwb ran the ball back and won yet another penalty for offside. The penalty was duly converted by Ollie Jenkins making the score Tyrchs 5 Clwb 20.

The Tyrchs restarted the game obviously smarting from being on the receiving end of so many penalties and immediately struck back Nathan Williams won the ball back, made a good run and put in Tom James in for a try near the posts. Tom converted his own try making the score  Tyrchs 12 Clwb 20.

Clwb restarted the game and following some intensive pressure regained the ball some 5 metres from the Tyrchs line. Retaining the ball well they drove over the Tyrchs line with old stager Owain Tudur touching down. Ollie Jenkins again converted making the score Tyrchs 12 Clwb 27.

The Tyrchs restarted the game and following a knock on it was their turn to strike back with Nathan Williams scoring a good try converted by Tom James. Score Tyrchs 19 Clwb 27.

Clwb restarted the game and following a knock on and resulting scrum the Tyrchs were awarded a penalty which they took quickly. Applying good pressure to the Clwb defence they unfortunately lost the ball. Clwb won the scrum but knocked the ball on themselves. The Tyrchs were then awarded a penalty at the resulting scrum with Clwb suffering a yellow card. The Tyrchs chose to take another scrum. The Tyrchs won it and ran the ball to the right and scored a good try. Tom James converted making the score Tyrchs 26 Clwb 27.

 

The Tyrchs ran back to the half way line with their supporters urging them on. Clwb restarted the game and the Tyrchs renewed their attacks. Exerting good pressure the Tyrchs moved the ball into the Clwb half with the referee looking at his watch. Then in the dying minutes Clwb were awarded a penalty which after being tapped was kicked dead signifying the end of the game.

 

Final Score Tyrchs 26 Clwb 27.

This weekend sees the 1st Home to Cowbridge, 2nds away to Taffs Well and the Youth also home to Rhiwbina.
