Llandaff North RFC v Pentyrch RFC – 11 March 2017
Pentyrch dominated possession and territory for the first twenty minutes of the game. The hosts didn’t even cross the halfway line during this time. The visitor’s scrums and lineouts were solid and the backs looked far more enterprising than their opponents. The pressure eventually told when right wing Dylan Palmer, making his debut from the Youth XV, crossed in the corner. The conversion, by Tomos James, hit the post and then the bar, without going over. The hosts came into the game a little more but Pentyrch defended well. A penalty goal for by the hosts made the interval score 3-5.
Pentyrch changed their props at the interval which resulted in the scrum being less effective. The hosts camped themselves inside the Pentyrch twenty two for about fifteen minutes at the start of the half and eventually scored an unconverted try. Pentyrch soon leveled the scores when Tomos James converted a penalty goal. The hosts enjoyed much more possession in the second half, contributed to by silly technical infringements by the visitors. The home side extended their lead by adding a penalty goal and a converted try. Pentyrch hit back immediately from the restart when Tom Marley intercepted a pass inside the home twenty two to cross under the posts. Tomos James added the conversion. Unfortunately, there was no last minute scores for the visitors. The hosts added a further penalty goal to win the game 21-15.Pentyrch picked up a losing bonus point.
